June 21 is at the same time the day of the summer solstice, the day of the Sun and the International Yoga Day. We could say it’s a happy coincidence, but what day of the year would be more appropriate to celebrate such a valuable spiritual tradition?

4 years ago, on 11 December 2014, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 69/131, which declared 21 June International Yoga Day. The purpose of this day is to increase international interest in this ancient practice with numerous benefits for our lives.

The proposal to set a day to celebrate this ancient spiritual tradition internationally was put forward by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 September 2014 in a speech to members of the UN General Assembly. The 193 members of the UN General Assembly unanimously approved the request.

The Indian Prime Minister stressed, on this occasion, that “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient traditions. It represents the unity between mind and body, thought and action, thrift and abundance, harmony between man and nature, a holistic approach to health and well-being. It’s not about exercise, it’s about discovering a sense of unity with oneself, the world and nature.’‘, as stated on the official website www.idayofyoga.org.

All Yoga schools around the world celebrated International Yoga Day for the first time in 2015 with a series of special programs. Since then, every year, we celebrate this wonderful day.

International Yoga Day aims to raise mass awareness of the beneficial effects Yoga has on people’s health. The practice of this mercy arts confers calm, inner peace, the development of certain qualities such as courage, confidence, and mental focus. Yoga gives self-confidence, self-knowledge and a better understanding with other people, maintaining a positive attitude towards life.

We look forward to you, Thursday, June 21, 2018 in Izvor Park, starting at 7 p.m., to participate in a flashmob, very easy to learn, to celebrate together this wonderful day.
