What is the lineage of Abheda Yoga? The roots of the tradition and the role of Leo Radutz

By lineage—in Sanskrit, guru-śiṣya-paramparā
—we mean the continuity of a spiritual
tradition from master to disciple and, onward, to the next generations.

In its authentic form, a lineage is not just about passing on information.

It can involve direct teaching, initiation, practice, spiritual
formationand, when tradition requires it, the authorization of the
discipleto pass on the methods and teaching received.

The role of this continuity is to preserve, as far as possible,
the essence and purity of a path,
avoiding its deformation over generations.

In the case of the Abheda Yoga Academy there is, on the one hand,
a traditional continuity

from the formation of its founder
within the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta tradition,
associated with the teaching of Swami Sivananda
and continued through Swami Vishnudevananda.

Leo Radutz received training and certification in teaching yoga and Vedānta philosophy within this tradition
.

There are also international
certifications and trainings obtained in India in the field of yoga.

However, these constitute the traditional roots of Abheda,
not its entire identity.

Abheda Yoga, in the form in which it is taught today,
was constituted through a process of practice, research, selection and synthesis

methods derived in particular from:

• Vedānta;
• Trika – Nondualistic Kashmiri Śivaism;
• Vajrayāna;
• as well as other authentic traditions of yoga and spiritual transformation.

The emphasis of this synthesis is on what we call
“Spirituality in the middle of life”:
the
possibility that spiritual transformation is not separated from ordinary existence,
but manifests and deepens
through relationships, work, love, responsibility, difficulties and action.

The Academy’s founder, Leo Radutz,
did not present himself as an “accomplished spiritual master”

and do not ask students to accept such a statement.

Its role was and is to
practitioner, researcher, teacher and initiator of his own spiritual synthesis,
built on traditional foundations.

Therefore, we can talk about two complementary aspects:
the roots of Abheda belong to older traditional lineages,
and Abheda, as a distinct formulation and organized path, constitutes a new lineage.

In this regard,
Abheda’s own lineage begins with Leo Radutz,
with the establishment of this path in 2008.

Leo Radutz often uses the phrase:

“We are dwarfs on the shoulders of giants.”

It expresses the fact that what we are achieving today
is possible thanks to the extraordinary
experience accumulated by the generations and traditions that preceded us.

At the same time, we believe that a living
tradition does not only mean conservation.

With humility, discernment and responsibility,
each generation can contribute to the
clarity, purity, adaptability, and value of the
path it conveys further.

What does the title of “Yogacharya” of founding professor Leo Radutz mean?

The Sanskrit term Yogācārya can be roughly translated as
“teacher or guide in yoga”,
ācārya designating in the Indian tradition a teacher or a teacher.

In the case of Leo Radutz, this title is associated
with international training and certifications obtained
in yoga schools and organizations,
including the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta
tradition and trainings carried out in India.

A certification has a real but limited value.

It can attest that a person
has completed a certain training
programme and has fulfilled certain professional requirements.

But it cannot certify a man’s spiritual attainment.

On a spiritual path it matters much more:

• its actual practice;
• experience;
• the results obtained;
• integrity;
• the capacity to sacrifice and serve;
• discernment;
• clarity of teaching;
• and the transformative value of his work.

For this reason, in Abheda we do not consider the title of Yogacharya
a proof of spiritual superiority.

It is, first of all,
a certification of a training
and level of competence required for teaching yoga.

In a similar sense,
the Abheda Yoga Academy can certify graduates
who have completed the necessary
training and who meet the conditions to teach.

The certificate confirms a training.
The person, the practice and what he transmits give the true value to that training.
