We meditate on the transcendental Glory of the Supreme Divinity, which is within the heart of the Earth, within the life of Heaven, and within the soul of Heaven, may it stimulate and enlighten our minds.

The Gayatri Mantra is one of the most meaning-laden mantras contained in the Vedas. Nothing in Hinduism compares in terms of spiritual charge to the Gayatri Mantra, which is a glorification of Savitri – the Sun/God.

It was quoted in the Rig Veda (3.062.10), written with approx. 3000 years ago, but it was transmitted orally many generations ago. The Gāyatrī Mantra is considered to be the supreme mantra.

It is considered the essence and crowning of the other Mantras. It is said to help maintain the inner fire through the permanent connection to the Universal Energy.

Gayatri (Sanskrit: गायत्री, gāyatrī) is the feminine form of gāyatra, the Sanskrit word for song or hymn.

Originally, Gayatri was the feminine personification of Brahman, some considering her the mother of all the Vedic gods (Supreme Shakti), but also a personification of the immutable reality, beyond this world of manifestations. Divine forms and reincarnations of the goddess Gāyatrī are Āditi, Lakṣmī, Pārvatī and Sarasvatī.

It is often depicted above a lotus, signifying well-being. The Gayatri Mantra is embraced by both Hindus around the world and Buddhism, being considered a good means of achieving a sublime state close to full spiritual enlightenment.

It is said that the optimal number of repetition of the mantra verses to achieve complete spiritual peace is 108 times, one can also chant 3, 9, 18 times, as time permits. It is usually sung at all three main times of the day: in the morning, at noon, and in the evening.

The syllables of this mantra have a special effect in harmonizing the chakras. The rishis (advanced yogis) selected the words of this mantra and arranged them so that their utterance would also gain strength from their repetitive flow.

Gayatri Mantra:

  1. ॐ भूर्भुवस्व: |
    तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यम् |
    भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि |
    धियो यो न: प्रचोदयात्

to enlighten our minds.”

Therefore, all auspicious actions begin with the Gāyatrī Mantra. Swami Sivananda on Gāyatrī Mantra (1887 – 1963) “Of all the mantras, the most powerful is the Great Mantra of Gāyatrī. It is the life and support of every Hindu. It is the support of every seeker of the Truth, who believes in it regardless of caste, religion, country or sect. All that matters is the faith and purity of the heart of the one who recites it. The Gāyatrī Mantra is an impenetrable spiritual armor, a fortress that protects those who recite it, allowing them to unite with the Divinity, and blesses them with the glow of spiritual enlightenment. By repeating it regularly daily, it will attract favorable auspiciousness upon you. It is wrong to think that this mantra is intended only for the orthodox caste of Brahmins. It is universal because it is a prayer for light addressed to the almighty Supreme Spirit, it is truly the transcendental guiding light intended for humanity. The sun of which the Gāyatrī Mantra speaks is tat savitur, the Great Sun, the absolute and impersonal Brahman. That is why the Gāyatrī Mantra is the greatest of the mantras, and the officiating god is Para-Brahman himself. However, it can also be useful to other aspirants. Brahmachari’s teja , Grihastha’s prosperity, and Vaanaprastha’s strength and caress rest on Gāyatrī Japa. If you are honest, sincere, and have faith, your life will be blessed. Dear aspirants! Realize the miraculous power of this mantra, the value of this inheritance, and do not neglect the divine Shakti that the rishi of ancient times have handed down to us. Start your day with Gāyatrī Japa and you will feel the power it gives you. Recite a mala from the Gāyatrī Mantra daily without interruption. It will keep you out of danger, give you strength to overcome obstacles, and you will reach the pinnacle of strength, tranquility, and happiness. God says in the Veda Samano Mantra, ‘Let there be a mantra good at everything,’ and that mantra is Gāyatrī. If the secret teaching of the Upanishads is the essence of the four Vedas, the Gāyatrī Mantra, with the three Vyahritis (Bhur, Bhuva, Svaha), is the essence of the Upanishads. Gāyatrī is the mother of the Vedas and the one who erases all sins. There is nothing more purifying on Earth than the Gāyatrī Mantra. It has the same effects as reciting the Vedas and Anga together. Only this mantra, recited sincerely and with a clear conscience, brings liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth.” The Gayatri Mantra is the most sacred of all the Vedic Mantras. In it is embodied the whole teaching of the Vedas. This mantra confers perfect health, beauty, strength, vigor, vitality, as well as a magnetic aura of the face (radiation like the one who practiced Pranayama a lot). This mantra also destroys the three sources of ignorance (granthi): avidya (lack of knowledge), kama (desires), karma (egoistic actions).
