The story of the little boy who knew how to draw a flower

red_flowerOne day a little boy went to school. The little boy was small, and the school was big. But when the little boy saw that the entrance to his class was made through a door directly from the yard he was very happy… and the school did not seem so big as in the beginning.

One morning when the little boy was in class, the teacher told the children:
“Today we’re going to do a drawing.”
“Great,” the little boy thought, because he loved to draw. He knew how to draw a lot of things: lions and tigers, chickens and cows, trains and ships. And he pulled out his crayon box and started drawing…

But the teacher told the children:
“Wait, don’t start yet!” And he waited until it seemed to him that all the children were ready.
“Now we’re going to draw flowers,” the teacher said.
“Great,” the little boy thought, because he liked to draw flowers. And he started drawing beautiful flowers, and he colored them red, orange and blue.

But the teacher told the children:
“Wait! I’ll show you how to color.” And he drew a red flower with a green stem.
“Now you can start,” the teacher said.
The little boy looked at the teacher’s flower, then looked at his flower. His was more beautiful than the teacher’s, but he didn’t say anything. He just turned the sheet over and drew a flower like the teacher’s, The Red Era with the green stem.

Another day, when the little boy had entered the classroom through the door in the yard, the teacher told the children:
“Today we’re going to make something out of clay.”
“Great,” said the little boy, because he liked to work with clay. He knew how to make all kinds of things out of clay: snakes and snowmen, elephants and trucks… and began to knead the clay piece.

But the teacher said:
“Stay ! You are not ready to start “… and waited until all the children were ready.
“Now we’re going to make a plate,” the teacher said.
“Great,” the little boy thought, because he liked to make plates. And he started making plates of all shapes and sizes.

But the teacher told the children:
“Wait, I’ll show you how to do it!” And he showed them how to make a deep plate.
“So, now you can start,” the teacher said.
The little boy looked at the teacher’s plate, and then at his own. He liked his plates more than the deep plate made by the teacher, But he did not say a word and turned his plates into a large ball of clay from which he made a deep and large plate like the one made by the teacher.
Very soon, the little boy learned to wait and watch and do things like those made by the teacher. And very soon he didn’t do anything on his own.

It happened one day that the little boy and his family moved into another house.
in another city. The little boy had to go to another school. The new school was even bigger, and he had no door through which to enter directly from the yard into his classroom. He had to climb some high steps and walk along a long corridor until he reached his class.

On the first day of school, the teacher told the children:
“Today we’re going to make a drawing”.
“Great,” said his little boy, and waited for the teacher to tell him what to do. But she didn’t say anything, she just walked through the class. When he got next to the little boy, he said:
“You don’t know how to draw?”
“Yes,” said the little boy, “what drawing to make?”
“I don’t know until you do it,” the teacher said.
“How do I do it?” said the little boy.
“How will you,” was her response.
“If you all made the same drawing, and colored it the same, how can I know who made it?”
“I don’t know,” said the little boy And began to draw a red flower with a green stem …

 

Morals:
This is how we are all at the beginning: we are creative and we know how to draw anything, very beautifully and masterfully in our own way, until… we are registered in the education system where we are erased our individuality and we are inoculated with the ways in which we “must” see the reality… where a flower is always red with green stem!
