The Great Divine or Divine Powers Dasa Maha Vidya
is a transpersonal transformation system with tools consisting of:
- Yantra
- Mantras
- Symbolic iconographic representations – which can be used as a mandala or a meditation icon
- and an associated metaphysics.
These practices have the ultimate goal
supreme attainment, salvation, moksha, spiritual liberation,
in order to achieve the passage of the being from the finite to the infinite,
from ignorance to knowledge, from what is transient to what is impassable,
from immanence to transcendence
starting from love, passion and concern or, even, attachment
to the world, what is still limited.
These are in fact aspects of the natural life of man which,
Although still a “man of desire”, he seeks limitlessness, salvation or … God,
starting from the experience of the Knowledge of the world.
Vidya means knowledge
and this will mean, in the end,
the knowledge or living of identity
with the Supreme Being or God, the Lord God or the Supreme God.
That is why it is said that these Maha vidyas in number are with one end in immanence, in manifestation or in the natural life of man
And with an end in non-manifestation, in transcendence
or in God or the One Supreme Being.
They represent a complete system
These 10 so-called Goddesses represent the “360 degrees”,
the complete circle of human experiences that can lead the authentic
Seeker from immanence to transcendence.
Therefore, regardless of the resemblance of any Maha Vidya
to one or the other of the Hindu goddesses,
she is absolutely different from them
by the specific role she has within
the system of the 10 Mahavidyas or Dasa MahaVidya.
They are different facets of the same one goddess
God in his feminine hypostasis and, therefore,
any of them contains all the others,
but manifests more or less easily certain specificities.
It is as if we look at a goddess from the left, from the right, from above or from below,
observing and worshipping first certain aspects and not others
that are, in that situation, further and smaller in our vision.
The great divine power of evolution through tapas
Tripura Bhairavi means the three times terrible oneand is that facet of the unique supreme Shakti or the Eternal Feminine that manifests the support of evolution through tapas, through personal effort, completed by the grace that tapas attracts.
The grace of the great divine power Tripura Bhairavi manifests itself in two ways.
On the one hand, by the fact that we can evolve through tapas, therefore through limited human actions.
But also by the fact that, benefiting from her help, it is easy for us to achieve tapas thanks to the help that comes from infinity, an unexpected, stenic help, being in this way, a kind of friend of those who, through their limited human actions, seek to fulfill certain projects – especially spiritual projects.
At the same time, the great divine power Tripura Bhairavi helps us to transcend our human limitations and to make the transition from the finite to the infinite, through tapas so that, helping us in this way, at some point we no longer need her grace, because we pass into the infinite, where the limited man can have other capacities, which can be his new prespectives based on limitlessness.
Meaning of name
Bhairavi comes from:
bha
, which refers to the aspect of maintenance or support
ra
, from
ramana
, which refers to the creative action
will,
from
vamana, representing the
end or conclusion of an action
Therefore, Tripura Bhairavi can manifest all three actions of the manifestation- creation, maintenance and support.
This quality of it is connected with the symbol of fire( agni) or lightning ( vidyut) or the sun ( surya), representing the three forms of manifestation in the three worlds, but also its capacity for purification and transformation.
Bhairavi represents light and warmth that can burn imperfections in the soul.
It is associated with The principle of destruction, which does not have a negative meaning, but refers to the transformation that goes through the process of destruction as a necessary stage for something new, better, higher to be born.
Bhairavi can also be translated as
“terror”
and also means beyond the fear of death.
Iconographic representation
Tripura Bhairavi is depicted as bright and radiant as a thousand suns, due to its transformative power over the human being.
He wears a blood-red garment and a garland of human skulls around his neck, and on his head a diadem adorned with precious stones in the shape of a crescent.
She has three eyes and her lotus flower-like face has a happy, smiling expression.
The breasts are splashed with blood and adorned with countless jewels.
In two of her four hands she holds a rosary and a book, and with the other two arms she makes the gesture of knowledge (jnana mudra) and that of offering gifts and spiritual powers (varada mudra).
Sometimes she is represented as making the gesture that removes fear (abhaya mudra).
In some iconographic representations she appears as being placed on a red lotus, and in other representations, she is placed on top of a corpse.
Hypostasis
Kala- Bhairavi
Because of her terrible appearance she is likened to Kali and known from this perspective as Kala-Bhairavi, consort of Shiva- Bhairava.
From this perspective, she is the mistress of the world in decline.
We can relate to it in order to develop our ability and power to master our lower ego tendencies, to overcome our limits.
durga
Tripura Bhairavi offers us protection against negative influences and spiritual guidance. She also appears as a protective mother who protects and guides her children with firm, prompt and determined actions, but necessary and beneficial.
Durga is represented riding a lion, a symbol of fire and solar energy. With a terrible and threatening attitude, she confidently and skillfully wields divine light to remove impurities and bring fulfillment. It helps us to overcome any obstacle, limitation or suffering and even to change our attitude and perspective in the face of death.
Mahishaura Mardini
She is the goddess who has ten arms and who is the victor of the demon Mahishaura, a demon who represents the embodiment of lower passions, who “connects” the human being to the world of illusions and suffering.
chandi
She is the main deity of the famous Hindu poem Devi Mahatmya (which contains 700 sutra-es or aphorisms). This poem is also called Durga Saptasati or Chandi. He describes how the great goddess defeats all the demons that oppose her.
She is represented as the “warrior woman,” who through divinely inspired speech and the power to master and manipulate the subtle fire can purify our being, remove all obstacles, and lead to spiritual awakening and realization.
