YOGA – CHRISTIANITY
What is the similarity between Christianity and authentic yoga?
There are aspects in Christianity that pertain to the supreme, superior,
of non-duality.
The answer to the question “where is God“?
Sure, God is everywhere, but it’s imperceptible,
God cannot be seen—if He were everywhere, He would be seen.
“Where is God?”
The answer of priests with grace is:
“be careful, be very attentive, God is in you;
either the Father or the Son, can be found in us.”
Here is the very clear statement
that non-dualistic yoga has been saying for thousands of years.
We even find in Christianity a clarification made in strong words
“the kingdom of God is in you,”
Jesus Christ told the Pharisees, very clearly… What else could be added?
On the other hand, there is in the canonical gospels, the astonishing story
in which Jesus speaks with great authority to the Pharisees in the Temple
about various spiritual aspects.
John 10:34-36:
Here, Jesus responds to the scribes’ and Pharisees’ accusations of blasphemy when he claims to be the Son of God:
“Jesus answered them, ‘Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, ‘You are gods’?
If the Law calls gods those to whom the word of God has been addressed
(and Scripture cannot be abolished),
how can you say to him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world:
‘You blaspheme!’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God?'”
The quote “You are Gods” comes from Psalm 82:6, which Jesus uses in John 10:34.
“I said, ‘You are gods, you are all sons of the Most High.'”
This verse is often quoted to emphasize the special status of people as sons of God,
having a divine calling, but also a corresponding responsibility.
In the context of Psalm 82, this passage addresses judges or leaders, highlighting their responsibility to do justice and act in accordance with God’s will.
Jesus uses this verse in John 10:34 to respond to accusations of blasphemy,
showing that the term “gods” had already been used in Scripture
for people who receive the word of God,
therefore His claim to be the Son of God
It should not be considered blasphemy.
There are several passages in the New Testament
in which Jesus affirms that salvation, God or His Kingdom
are within us or are accessible within us.
These statements emphasize the inner spiritual dimension
of man’s relationship with God.
Here are some relevant examples:
1. Luke 17:20-21
Jesus speaks of the Kingdom of God:
“The Pharisees asked Him when the Kingdom of God would come.
In answer He said to them, ‘The kingdom of God does not come in such a way as to strike the eye.
It will not be said, ‘Here she is!’ or, ‘Here she is!’
For behold, the kingdom of God is within you.'”
This passage is interpreted as an affirmation that
The kingdom of God is not a physical place,
but a spiritual reality that can be found
within each person open to God.
2. John 14:23
Jesus promises the disciples that the Father and the Son will dwell in those who love Him:
“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My Word,
and My Father will love him.
We will come to him and live with him.”
This verse makes it clear that God’s presence
It can be experienced within the believer.
3. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (written by the apostle Paul, but aligned with the teachings of Jesus)
Reference to man as a temple of God:
“Do you not know that you are the Temple of God
and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
If anyone destroys the Temple of God,
that one God will destroy;
for the temple of God is holy, and so are you.”
This passage amplifies the idea that God
It can be found inside every person.
4. John 7:38-39
Jesus on the “living waters” within the believer:
“Whoever believes in Me from his heart
rivers of living water will flow, as the Scripture says.”
The living waters are the symbol of the Holy Spirit, who dwells in the believer.
5. Matthew 6:22-23
Jesus on light and darkness within man:
“The eye is the light of the body.
If your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light.
But if your eye is evil
Your whole body will be full of darkness.
So if the light that’s in you is darkness,
Howgreat must that darkness be!”
This passage suggests that divine light
is accessible indoors,
But it depends on our spiritual state.
6. John 15:4-5
Jesus on abiding in Him:
“Abide in Me, and I will abide in you.
Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself,
if it does not remain in the vine,
so you too cannot bear fruit unless you abide in Me.
I am the Vine, you are the branches.
He who abides in Me and in whom I abide bears much fruit;
for, separated from Me, you can do nothing.”
This verse emphasizes the spiritual union between man and God.
7. Matthew 10:20
About the Holy Spirit who speaks through the faithful:
“For you will not speak, but the Spirit of your Father will speak in you.”
This passage reflects the divine presence active within those who believe.
Many of Jesus’ teachings suggest that
the relationship with God, salvation and the Kingdom of God
I’m not something external,
but they are accessible and present within each person
who sincerely seek this spiritual relationship.
These passages are fundamental
for understanding Christianity
as a religion of inner transformation.
Other similarities between yoga and Christianity: the primacy of humility:
It is fundamental to transcend our identification with the ego and manifest the state of humility, which in authentic yoga, is called “Vinaya Mudra“.
We learn in yoga about the absolute necessity of this skill, this spiritual virtue, and we also find out how it can be developed in yoga.
A man can show humility spontaneously,
if he wants it now, of a certain level.
But we find out in authentic non-dualistic yoga Abheda,
how can we amplify tenfold, a hundred times, a thousand times,
the ability to manifest the state of humility.
What similarities are there between Christianity and yoga:
Thou shalt not kill!
Don’t steal!
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife.
Thou shalt not commit adultery!
Thou shalt not be a fornicator
In fact, all 10 commandments are obviously found in yoga, but we find them together with the necessary tools to make it easier and easier for us to keep these commandments.
Because it is not enough to know about the commandment,
You have to live it,
to be able to manifest it.
Otherwise, people say:
“What should I do, that’s my nature:
I feel like stealing, I feel like lying“…
Another similarity between yoga and Christianity:
“All is vanity” (as they say in Christianity).
Or, as Jesus said:
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moths and rust destroy them, and where thieves break in and steal them,
but lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys them,
and where thieves do not break into them, nor steal them.”
(Matthew 6:19-34)(NASB)
That is, the primacy of spiritual evolution that is well known in yoga, has been firmly transmitted by Jesus.
Or: “Traveler, remember death!”
This exhortation is fundamentally to be observed now, because,
referring to the terminus moment,
We will live life much better and wiser.
We will understand that life has value, but on the other hand,
we will understand that this value is relative
because, in the end, we will not be able to take anyone with us.
Another similarity is the divine order in the Universe.
He is told in Christianity: “It is necessary to fear God!”
Behold, it is necessary to fear God,
because there is a Universal Order in the Universe,
that is, the universe is not mechanical and reacts to our fakes.
Everything is connected to everything, everything is connected to everything, and everything means something, everything matters.
And the law of action and reaction in yoga
Say “be careful that if you do something, it will come back“,
Here it is present in authentic Christianity.
